Grown and still Growing

Tonight, I sit in my room as a Super Bowl party continues below me.  I’ve never been too great with large crowds of strangers.  One of the  things I have been reflecting on tonight as my shy side comes out is how far I’ve come and how far I still have to go.

This week we had a couple visitors from Michigan.  It was so awesome to be able to see some new, yet familiar faces.  It was a good but hard week.  I have been exahusted as being with kids usually drains me.  It was also a hard week as I struggled in finding out the boy I talked about in my last blog post passed away.  I have also been sick and am finally starting to get over it. Whew.

Some of the most amazing things have been happening here in Guatemala, however.  The kids here are loving what we are doing and hopefully gaining a lot from it.  I also got excited as we were told this week that we can include more biblical teachings in our lesson plans.  Music and Jesus?  Two things I am extreamly passionate about.  I’m very much in love with it here.  The culture and people are just absolutely wonderful.  I can’t even begin to describe the beauty of this country.  It has been such a wonderful and humbling experiance.

On a more personal note, I have been doing a lot of thinking about how far I’ve come as I mentioned in my first blog post.  Just four short months ago I was in the Hospital  and now I’m in Guatemala serving the God of the Universe.  A few short months ago I had fears, dread, and doubts.  Now I have joy, peace, and grace with myself.  God has been moving!!  It’s a powerful testimony to the work God can do.  He can bring healing.

As I also mentioned at the beggining of this post is the fact that I still have far to come.  This comes from the realization that God is constantly doing a work in me and healing is a gradual process.  My faith in his love and mercy continues to grow daily.  There is no finish line when it comes to faith in God.  There can always be improvement.  I’m so blessed to have the opportunity to be on this journey of faith and grow in my personal relationship with him as I also serve my brothers and sisters here in Guatemala and on the west side of Grand Rapids.  Until next time, my friends, have a great Super Bowl Sunday and a blessed week.
